Film Critique
The Eye is a horror movie. It's about a woman who has an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world.
It stars Jessica Alba who plays a part of a woman, Sydney Wells, who has been blind since the age of 5 and undergoes a cornea transplant. But when the bandages come off she sees all kinds of strange things and thinks she’s going mad. For example she sees dead people and grim reapers because for some reason the person whose eyes they belonged to before saw these things as well.
Apart from Jessica Alba none of the other actors are well known. I think her acting was effective because I believed that all these things were really happening to her and was absolutely petrified sitting underneath my seat. However, what I didn’t believe is how come she could hear the ghosts as well as see them just because of her eye transplant. That didn’t make sense.
As all horror movies this film has you sitting on the edge of your seat. However, if, like me, you don’t like to feel constantly nervous then you would be well advised not to go and watch it.
The special effects in the movie made all the visions that she was seeing seem real and each time they appeared, they jumped out at you. This was further exaggerated by the music.

Black Sheep News: Cyprus cows contribute to global warming
The European Union yesterday accused Cyprus of increasing greenhouse gases because its cows produce too much methane.
“A herd of cows chewing grass will release 25 cc of methane gas into the atmosphere”, EU Health Commissioner said. “That’s twice as much as any power station, and Cyprus lets its cows roam free”.
Speaking at a farmers meeting, he recommend that Cyprus cows should first be put onto a low fibre diet including mashed potatoes, yoghurt and spaghetti.
Moreover, scientists confirmed that cow control was a positive development which should give humanity more time to self destruct using other popular methods.
President Christofias said he would help the environment by refraining from public speaking for a week. “This should go a long way towards cutting emissions”, he said. “The international community should be grateful to us”.
“Meanwhile we can now go back to worrying about the financial crisis, or whether Britney Speers should be committed to a loony bin or not", he added.
Biography
Coco Chanel was smart, chic and ahead of her time. She designed clothes that changed the way women looked and how they looked at themselves.
She was born in 1883 in a poorhouse. When she was 12 her mother died of tuberculosis and her father ran off, so she was raised in an orphanage. There she learnt to sew and when she left made a living out of making hats. Then she met and had an affair with a French millionaire playboy who taught her the good life. She then dumped him, after opening her eyes, as she said, and took up with his best friend who was supposed to be the love of her life Arthur Capel. He financed her business and helped her become successful. She almost married one of the richest men in Europe, the Duke of Westminster and when she didn't, her explanation was, "There have been several Duchesses of Westminster. There is only one Chanel."
Coco Chanel's stylish, elegant designs revolutionized fashion. She used elements of male clothing and made it into female clothing, freeing women from the uncomfortable dressed they had to wear in the 19th century. The women she designed for was like herself - independent, successful, with lots of personality, style, and confidence.
She became famous for designing the Chanel suit, which consisted of a knee-length skirt with a matching boxy jacket made of woven wool with black trim and gold buttons. She also invented the little black dress for both evening and day. It was strapless, backless and more than a little risqué, but became very popular and still is today. She also introduced elaborate costume jewellery especially strings of pearls and a bag with golden handles. But what made her a millionaire was the perfume Chanel No. 5, which became the number-one selling perfume in the world and the first perfume to bear a designer's name. Its Art Deco bottle is on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. As she said, "this perfume is not just beautiful and fragrant. It contains my blood and sweat and a million broken dreams."
Coco closed her fashion business during World War II as she thought it was inappropriate, and moved into the Ritz hotel in Paris. During the Nazi occupation she had an affair with a German officer who arranged for her to remain in the hotel, for which she was criticised. Later she moved to the French Riviera and then to Switzerland but came back in 1954 when she started her business again, becoming just as successful as she was in the beginning.
Chanel died in the Ritz hotel in 1971 at the age of 87. By that time she was so famous that everybody knew her as Coco. Her fashion house still continues today run by German designer, Karl Lagerfeld, who has turned the company into an even bigger business than it was before.

Anticipation Guide Response
- Politics and political problems are a subject for adults to deal with
I disagree. I think young people should also know about political problems because its important for us to know what is going on in the world around us as it will help us later on. For example it is important for me to know who to vote for when i am older because the people who are elected decide on the laws that control how we live.
- All stories can have a happy ending if those involved work towards it.
I disagree. Sometimes no matter how hard you work for something that you want to happen, things go wrong and don't go according to plan.
- Literacy (being able to read) is a form of freedom.
I agree because being able to read alot of doors open up for you in life. Imagine not being able to read all the stuff on the internet! You would miss out on a lot of opportunities.
- Civilizations without a written language cannot document history
I both agree and disagree. I agree that you need to document history and you need a language in order to do that. But you could use technology to record the human voice instead of writing it down.
